Obituary of GENIVIEVE DOREEN OCHOCKI
GENIVIEVE OCHOCKI
It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of Genivieve Doreen Ochocki on November 14, 2022 at St Boniface Hospital. She was 81.
She is survived by her son Russell, her daughter Robin (Rodney), her sister Audrey, and her brother Tom. She was predeceased by her husband Donald, and parents Andrew and Mary. Winnipeg was her residence for all her life.
Genivieve was a graduate of Tec-Voc High School where she met her future husband and they remained married for 53 wonderful years.
She enjoyed long weekends with family at our cottage at Traverse Bay, and many family vacations including trips to BC, Florida, Hawaii, and Toronto. Her first big trip was in 1964 when she went with friends by train to watch the Grey Cup in BC.
In her earlier years, she enjoyed softball, volleyball, bowling and bingo. Later in life, she took up ceramics, macrame, knitting, and crocheting. Any family or friend's baby shower almost always received a handmade outfit or blanket for baby. She also very much enjoyed doing the crosswords, and sudoku in the Winnipeg Free Press daily.
Genivieve liked cooking and baking as well. Her favourite recipes included Nanaimo bars, cookies, perogies, cabbage rolls, and piroshki.
One of her accomplishments in life was winning 1st place singing on amateur night at the Palace Theatre on Selkirk Avenue.
She put her career at Federated Insurance on hold to raise her family. She was able to type 100 words a minute on a typewriter. (Not a very easy task.) Other jobs included working at Claude Neon Signs, The Terry Fox Foundation, and at the Winnipeg School Division as a substitute clerk. She also volunteered at Sherwood Elementary School when her kids were young.
Funeral service will be at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street on Saturday, December 3 at 1:00 p.m.
