MARIE JEANNE KOWALSKI

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Marie on Tuesday, November 22, 2022.

She was predeceased by her loving husband Stan.

Marie is survived by her son Brian (Linda), granddaughter Jennifer, son Allan and grandson Nik, her sister Annette (Edward), brother Leon (Rose) as well as several cherished nieces and nephews, family and friends.

Marie Jane was born to Leon and Lea Morrissette on May 11, 1928. She was born at home at 6:30 am weighing only 3 lbs. In those days there was no such thing as an incubator so as per Dr. Mackenzie’s instructions she was wrapped up in lots of blankets and rested near the open door of the wood stove for the warmth. She was certainly a determined little girl as when she was nine years old, she contracted Polio and survived.  She was directed by Dr. Mackenzie to chew gum to keep the muscles working to lessen the effects of Polio.

Marie attended Charleswood School, then went to work at Perth’s Dry Cleaners near Eaton’s. She met and made friends with Pauline and Teenie. They introduced her to stan and they were married on June 19, 1949.  The moved to Transcona where they made their home and raised their family. Marie loved going to the casino, Listening to country music and watching the Winnipeg Jets and Winnipeg Blue Bombers on TV.

A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, May 11, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel Transcona, 1800 Day Street
