WALTER VALENTIN KAMPEN

Obituary of WALTER VALENTIN KAMPEN

February 19, 1952 – November 24, 2022

Peacefully with his wife and friends by his side at the HSC, Walter lost his battle with Cancer.  He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Elly (nee Lepp) of 36 years, his mother Ludmila, his sister Elisabeth (Les) Fletcher, Elly’s family in St. Catherine’s and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Walter was born in Winnipeg to Ludmila and Valentin Kampen and grew up in the

Kildonan area.  He was lucky enough to spend his Summers at the family cabin at Beaconia Beach until it was sold a few years ago.

Walter had a scientific approach to life and it helped him shape his Aviation Career at StandardAero.  He started as a mechanic on aircraft engines and worked his way up to Trainer.   With his training career came many opportunities to travel the World.  He shared his love of travel with his wife, Elly, and they had many exciting trips together including their wonderful River Cruise.

Walter had a wide variety of interests, and retained a wealth of knowledge.  Through the years he joined many clubs, starting with the Air Cadets as a youngster.  He belonged to the Redboine Boat Club, (until he sold the boat) the Winnipeg Revolver and Pistol Association, the Tandy Leather Club, the Corvette Club, where he especially loved to participate in their rallies, with his 2003 Corvette.

He was an amateur photographer, great cook and grill master.  He loved to read and enjoyed sitting back and listening to his stereo.   Walter was always up for a BBQ with friends, or a Corvette ride with the group to a new restaurant.  He embraced life and what it had to offer, and he was always up for a new adventure.

Through the years, Walter met a huge number of people and once they knew him, they were considered friends for life.

The Funeral Service will be held at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street, Wpg, MB Friday, December 2, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Brookside Cemetery, 3001 Notre Dame Ave.
