EMILY STAMP

Obituary of EMILY STAMP

EMILY ELLEN STAMP Emily Ellen, aged 93 passed away peacefully on February 3, 2013. Born in 1919, she lived a full and accomplished life in her hometown of Winnipeg. Predeceased by her parents George and Ethel and her loving older brother, Ron, she was fiercely devoted to family and ‘Aunt Em’ was an integral and supportive force in the lives of her niece, Penny and nephew, Graeme. This impact carried through the generations and Emily will be dearly missed by the family she leaves behind including: Betty, Shannon, David (STAMP), Doug, Duncan, Allison, Cameron and Lauren (STEWART) and great grandnephew, Jace (ELLIS). We would like to thank her many friends and neighbours who helped her with her needs, especially , Mildred, Lorne, Irene, Margaret and Kay and numerous other friends (many from St. Martin in the Fields Anglican Church) and caregivers. Interested and curious, intelligent and sharp-as-a-tack, witty and moral, and always the upstanding citizen, Emily Stamp cared deeply about the world around her. Involved with the Girl Guides for many years, Emily was a District Commissioner for the organization as well as Finance Chairman for the North West Division. She was also a member of the Winnipeg Xana Professional and Business Women’s Club. Emily was a ground breaker for women in many ways – appointed in 1975 by Premier Ed Schreyer as the first female Superintendent of Insurance for the province of Manitoba and in 1977, being awarded the prestigious Queen Elizabeth II Silver Jubilee Medal of Honour given to those citizens who make outstanding and exemplary contributions to their communities and Canada as a whole. To all those both far and near, Emily’s presence will be sorely missed. Rest in peace Aunt Em. Following cremation, Emily Stamp will be laid to rest alongside her beloved parents, George and Ethel. Memorial service to be held on Monday, February 25th at 12:30pm at St. Martin in the Fields Anglican Church (160 Smithfield Avenue, Winnipeg). In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations can be made to the Canadian branch of the Unitarian Service Committee.
