YAW AFRIYIE
Yaw Afriyie was born and raised in Accra, Ghana to parents Meister and Kate Afriyie on October 12, 1989. Yaw is the third child of six immediate brothers, though he was a brother to many in his extended and chosen family of friends.
He attended elementary school at Association International and high school education at Prempeh College Kumasi, Ghana. Yaw obtained a BSc. Mechanical Engineering from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science & Technology in Kumasi, Ghana, and an Msc. In Mechanical Engineering from the University of Manitoba after moving to Winnipeg, Canada.
While Yaw was an engineer by profession and pursued a career in engineering at Price Industries and AGI, he has two other passions, chess and soccer. At an early age, Yaw developed a real interest in soccer and played any chance he got. Yaw was a remarkable player and had an uncanny ability to remember every detail of every game. He was an avid member of the Manitoba Soccer group and organized many soccer leagues.
It was hard to beat Yaw at chess because he played chess just like he lived life. He was always a few steps ahead with infinite wisdom. He lit up every room with his infectious laugher and warm smile.
We’ll miss his presence everyday.
