Obituary of CARL DYMETRO ZAWATSKY

CARL DYMETRO ZAWATSKY

BORN: JUN 15, 1933

DATE OF PASSING: MAR 13, 2023

Carl Zawatsky passed away peacefully on March 13, 2023, at the age of 89.

Carl is survived by his daughter Gayle and son Dwayne. He was blessed with two grandchildren, Morgan and Owen. Carl was predeceased by his wife Dorothy in 2014.

Carl was born on June 15, 1933 in Gimli, Manitoba to his parents John Zawatsky and Emilia Steblinska. He moved to Winnipeg as a young boy and later met Dorothy McLean, the love of his life, when they worked together at Osler, Hammond and Nanton Insurance brokerage. Carl and Dorothy married on July 12, 1958 in Winnipeg and purchased a home in Garden City, where they lived for more than 50 years. Soon after they married they started their family, welcoming daughter Gayle and son Dwayne into a home of love and laughter. Carl was then thrilled to become a “papa” to Morgan and Owen, never missing an after-school pickup and taking great pride in all of their accomplishments.

Carl was the proud grandson of Ukrainian immigrants, maintaining close ties to his heritage and community throughout his life. Carl always said he never worked a day in his life, as he always had a job he loved including his career as an Insurance Agency Superintendent, Insurance Broker, Marketing Director for a division of Seagram’s, and finally as a self-employed Wine Distributor. He was an accomplished bowler, golfer, and “backroom” politician, never missing an opportunity to host a campaign strategy session. Carl was the ultimate networker who had friends from all walks of life. Carl and Dotty loved to entertain friends and family in their home. They took many road trips to all parts of the United States, spending many winters in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, where they made many close friends.

A private family service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Heart & Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.
