Obituary of CAROLINE (CAROL) JULIA DIRR
Caroline Julia Dirr (nee Karaim)
(April 26, 1927- March 15, 2023)
Peacefully, on March 15, 2023, at the age of 95 our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away at Holy Family Home after a brief illness. Caroline was predeceased by her loving husband of 62 years, Edward Dirr.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter Sheree (Paul) Yablecki, son Garry (Sharon) Dirr, grandchildren Jessica (Kristofer), Katie (Ian), Eva, Tasha (Tobin) and Jordan (Karly), as well as seven great-grandchildren Thomas, Annette, Maggie, Jane, Callan, Cooper and Jackson.
Caroline (Carol) was the youngest born of Basil and Veronica's 14 children, growing up on a farm in Ashville, Manitoba. As a young woman, Carol moved to Winnipeg and eventually met the love of her life, Edward, while they were both working at Swift Meats.
To say that Carol was a hard-worker would be an understatement. Throughout her life Carol was employed as a cook, a baker and as a hairdresser. Even in her downtime, she was always busy taking care of her family, cooking, bowling, shopping, playing bingo and cards and spending her summers at Falcon Lake. Cooking and baking were a big part of Carol's life. She was especially known for her perogies and holubtsi, which were always in high demand at family gatherings. Carol sold her perogies on the side and also always made certain that those she cared about had freezers full of her delicious cooking.
Carol and Ed loved spending their summers at Falcon Lake and spent over forty-five years making many happy memories and friendships. Carol enjoyed spending her time at Falcon fishing, mushroom and berry picking, as well as hosting her friends and family. Carol and Ed also loved to host card games (poker and 31); these games were known more for the friendly squabbling between Carol and Ed than anything else.
Carol was a devoted mother and grandmother and was extremely proud of her grandchildren. She was an eager babysitter and was happily involved in her children's and grandchildren's lives in as many ways as possible.
As Carol's health declined, she spent her final years at Holy Family Home where she received excellent care. Her family would like to thank the staff of St. Mary's unit for their compassionate care towards Carol, especially in her final days.
Carol had a special way of making sure those she cared about felt loved and appreciated—she was a small woman with the biggest heart. She will be deeply missed.
We love you, Mom. We love you, Granny.
