RUTH TWERDOCHLIB

(nee Galka)

January 11, 1937 – March 18, 2023

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ruth Twerdochlib. 

Ruth was born and raised NE of Wpg. Life wasn’t easy in those days, but she had her 5 siblings to rely upon. After turning 17, she was off to the city, where she landed her first job with the TD Bank in Transcona. She soon found a room to rent across the street, where she met her future husband, Ron. She always said that it wasn’t love at first sight, but that soon changed when he bought a car! Married and 4 kids later, life was busy. Mom could do it all: cook, bake, clean, sew, knit, and crochet, all the while tending to the needs of immediate and extended family gatherings. There wasn’t much idle time. She was a perfectionist, especially when it came to cooking and baking. Presentation was as important as taste, and she never disappointed.

As the kids grew, she took on some work at Woolco, then Gambles, and then FT evenings with RBC until her retirement at 56. In her 60’s, Ruth went back to work at the casino for social interaction. She loved raising a multitude of flowers both in the yard and at the cabin at Grand Marais. Even though she never played sports, mom and dad enjoyed 66 years joyfully screaming at the TV in support of their favorite players while watching football, baseball, curling and hockey. 

She leaves to mourn her husband Ron, daughter Linda (Dale), son Terry (Karen), son Alan, son Darren (Sandy), grandchildren Debra (Jade), Megan (Josh), Kailee, Michael (Lisa), Bree & Brady, great grandchildren Maddox, Ella, Noah. Sister Marjorie Moroz (Wayne), brothers Jimmy, Ron (Lynn) and many nieces and nephews.

At Ruth’s request, there will be no funeral. Amongst your close friends and family, please raise a glass to the life and memory of Ruth.
