Obituary of GORDON JOHN DOWNIE
Gordon Downie passed away peacefully on May 18, 2023, in Niverville, Manitoba at the age of 75 years. He was predeceased by his father John, mother Constance, and wife Maureen. He is lovingly remembered by children Brad and Brian (Mary-Jane) and grandchildren Owen, Marco, Londyn, and Jamison. He also leaves behind his sister Joan and extended family and close friends.
Gordon was born on June 29, 1947, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and grew up in Rivercrest, Manitoba. He met Maureen at a birthday party in 1972 and they were married on May 19, 1973. Gord started a long career in sales that started in Toronto in 1974 and then on to Calgary where his children were born and finally back to Manitoba where he retired from Sears Canada in 2008. Gord learned to fish from his father in the summers and curled in the winter both of which he would enjoy for the rest of his life. Gord was a lifelong New York Yankees fan and the Boston Bruins, especially Bobby Orr. He was also a big supporter of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and the Winnipeg Jets. Gord enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and teaching them how to fish. Gord will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, and great friend to all who knew him.
The family would like to thank the amazing staff at Heritage Life Personal Care Home in Niverville, Manitoba as well as John and Denise Stoesz, Barry and Jenny Tilsly, and Gord and Joyce Radford for all their help over the last few years. A Memorial time will be held on June 3, 2023, at 2pm at St. Vital Park at 190 River Road in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Refreshments will be served.
