Obituary of STANISLAW BAJNO

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our husband, father and dziadek, Stanisław (Stasiu), who peacefully passed away in his home on June 4, 2023 at the age of 82 with his family by his side.

Stasiu will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 50 years, Jadwiga; children Robert (Tracy), Lydia (Arash) and Susie; granddaughters Hanna, Abby and Amelia; and family dogs Mishu and Louis.

He also leaves behind nephew Zdzisław and niece Dorota and their families in Poland; and cousins Halina and Zdzisław and family in Chicago.

Born and raised in Zabiele, Poland, Stasiu was sponsored by his uncle to come to Winnipeg in April 1971. Jadzia arrived in Winnipeg a year and a half later, they married shortly after, and started a family.

Stasiu was a hardworking man devoted to both his family and career. As a professional painter, he started his career in the construction industry and ended with the Winnipeg School Division #1.

He was generous with his time, volunteering with organizations such as the Polish Gymnastics Association Sokol, Holy Ghost Fraternal Aid Society, and the Knights of Columbus. Stasiu also belonged to the Polish Seniors Club that he attended every Thursday until recently, when his illness made it challenging to leave his home. He was a dedicated and loyal friend who established many rewarding personal relationships. 

Family has always been a priority and greatest pleasure for Stasiu. He always made time to teach, support and help out his children. He especially loved watching his granddaughters grow up. They were his pride and joy. Nothing brought a smile to his face more than spending time with them.

Stasiu enjoyed being outdoors.  He enjoyed working in the yard and garden, relaxing on the patio swing and taking long walks to the Red River with Amelia and Mishu.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. Piotr Czaykowski, Nurse Practitioner Tamara Einarson, Nurse Rochelle, Dr. Jeff Saranchuk, Dr. John Kreml, the staff at Cancer Care Manitoba, and all Palliative Care program nurses.

Rosary will be recited on Friday, June 9 at 9:30 a.m. at Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Church, 341 Selkirk Avenue with Funeral Liturgy commencing at 10:00 a.m.  Interment will follow in Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Cemetery, 4387 Main Street.
