Obituary of FREDERICK THOMAS GEORGE MACDONALD

Frederick Thomas George MacDonald passed away suddenly with his wife at his side at St. Boniface Hospital on June 11, 2023 at the age of 71 years.

Freddy Mac as he is affectionately known was predeceased by his brother, John R and father, George S MacDonald as well as his brother-in-law, Doug Tobin.

He will be lovingly remembered by his beloved wife, Lisa and their fur baby, Eddy; as well as his mother-in-law, Ruth Stefanson and sisters-in-law, Shannon Stefanson (Mark Oleski), Kim Nielsen (Karl) and Kelly (Larry) Decker. He is survived and loved endlessly by his mother, Margaret MacDonald and sister, Karen Tobin of Portage la Prairie MB and nephew, Chad D Tobin of Sydney Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. Fred was close with his cousins, Tom (Deb)Porter and Randy (Shelly)Porter; family, Darnell (Cayleigh, Adelaide, Maisie) Porter, Chace (Alexa, Kinsley) Porter, Brandis (Bryce) Porter, Kassi (Mike, Parker, Pierce) Delorey and Lana (Mitch) Penner. As well as numerous and dear extended family as well as a multitude of good friends including his special golf buddy, Louis (Debbie). Also, good friends, Brett and Leigh McKIm who introduced Freddy and Lisa, they were so grateful for the gift of that introduction.

Fred was a complex man who enjoyed many simple pleasures in life. Although he was frequently the life of a party, he was actually quite a shy gentleman. He was an extremely kind and generous soul. He had a soft heart, especially for animals and it has often been said that he couldn’t hurt a fly and that is the truth. He was not a fighter but rather a lover and would usually avoid a conflict if he could. Not to say he didn’t have a stubborn streak, just that he was often quiet in his manner when he was in disagreement.  Fred enjoyed socializing but he also enjoyed nights in at home with his fur baby, his wife and a comforting home cooked meal combined with a good TV show.

Fred was a locomotive Engineer for CN and loved the work and definitely his colleagues. Although retired he still enjoyed railroad talk with his railroad family. That part of his life was very important to him and he remained in contact with many of the people he worked with over the years. He really enjoyed his time teaching railroading /engineering in Gimli. He was also the Vice President of the Granite Ridge Condo Association up until his passing.

He loved beaches and married Lisa on the beach in Jamaica which was a highlight in his life, followed by adopting his beloved pup, Eddy. Upon retirement Fred found the one sport he loved, GOLF! Some of his happiest days were on the course and we sure hope he is enjoying a round today and everyday forward!

A Celebration of Life will be held Monday, June 19 at 11:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street, Winnipeg, MB with luncheon to follow also at Cropo Funeral Chapel.
