Obituary of PETER MANCHULENKO

It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of our loving Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather, Brother, Uncle, and Friend on Saturday March 2, 2013 at the age of 71. Dad is survived by his wife of 45 years Annette (nee Lafantaisie), children Darryl (Val), Jacqueline, Gary (Stacha), and close family friend Stacey. Dad adored his grandchildren Brittany, Caitlyn, Jenna, Dylan, Brayden, Brenden, Alyssa, and great grandchild Alexis. Also left to cherish his memory are his sisters Mary, Kathleen, brother Mike, and numerous nephews, nieces, and friends. He was predeceased by his son Bryan, parents George and Nellie, father and mother-in-law Adelard and Mathilda Lafantaisie, Brothers Bill, John, George, Sister Olive and her husband Bill Neufeld, brother-in-law John Hladiuk, Bill Mihaychuk, sister-in-law Marge Manchulenko, and nephews Larry and Allan Manchulenko. Dad’s career began in Sales at Modern Dairies where he was actively involved in the Social Committee, Game & Fish Associations, and as Union President. After 23 years, he changed careers and worked as an Insurance Field Agent with the Knights of Columbus where he made many life long friends. Dad’s faith was strong and he spent many hours volunteering his time at St. Joseph’s Ukrainian Catholic Church. He later joined the Knights of Columbus, becoming a Charter Grand Knight of the Father Shyshkowich Council # 8925. He was instrumental in starting the Parish Fish Fry’s and the Annual Malanka Celebrations. After transferring to the St. Anne Ukrainian Catholic Parish he continued his volunteer work and became the first president of KUCA (Knights of the Ukrainian Archeparchy). Dad was a loving and caring man and was always willing to lend a helping hand no matter who was asking or what was being asked. At times it was as if he had a sixth sense where he knew help was need before those in need. There was nothing Dad did that wasn’t met with respect and admiration. Dad loved the outdoors! Many of his fondest memories (and many stories) involved fishing trips with his brother John, hunting trips, mushroom picking, a weekend lawn dart tournament or time out at camp. The family spent summers travelling across Canada and later in life Mom and Dad travelled extensively in Canada and abroad, wintering in Texas the last few years. The family would like to extend their thanks to the doctors and staff on the St. Boniface Hospital Cardiac Unit for the exceptional care provided to Dad. Prayers will be held on Friday March 8 at 7:00 pm at the Cropo Funeral Chapel 1442 Main St. Funeral liturgy will be celebrated on Saturday, March 9, at 10:00 a.m. at the St. Anne Ukrainian Catholic Church, 35 Marcie Street with interment to follow at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens, 4477 Main Street. Pallbearers will be George Gareau, John Goulet, John and Ken Manchulenko, Fred Hay, and Al Schirmacher. Honorary Pallbearers are all of Dad’s Nephews and Nieces for whom he cared deeply. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the St. Boniface Hospital Foundation – Cardiac Sciences Program or the St. Anne Parish Beautification/Stained Glass Fund.
