Obituary of HENRYK FOJT
HENRYK FOJT
June 12, 1939 – June 29, 2023
We are saddened to announce that Henryk Fojt passed away the evening of June 29, 2023. He passed away at the age of 84 at Fred Douglas Lodge in Winnipeg.
He was predeceased by his parents Antoni and Ludwika, twin brother Kazimierz and his son Aleksander. He is survived by his sister Alicja, sister-in-law Alicja and many nieces and nephews.
Henryk leaves behind Krystyna, his wife of nearly 57 years, his daughters Katarzyna Orlow (Adam) and Agnieszka Fojt, many grandchildren (Krzysztof, Marysia, Jeremy, Jonathan, Alicia, Amanda) and great grandchildren (Jack, Amelia, John, Hayden).
As a child, Henryk and his family survived the forced labour camps during WWII. They settled in Opole Poland after the war. He graduated technical school with a degree in Civil Engineering. He worked and lived in Opole where he was very skilled and passionate about his profession. He was liked and widely respected by others that he worked and associated with.
He moved to Namyslow with his wife Krystyna Fojt (Woloszczuk) in 1966 where they had three children, Aleksander, Kasia and Agnieszka. He continued his work there and surrounding areas until the family was able to immigrate to Canada in 1981. He started working for Motor Coach Industries Ltd in 1982 and worked there for over 22 years until he retired in 2004.
Henryk loved watching soccer on TV and was a supporter of the Sokol Soccer team. If he wasn’t watching soccer, Henryk could be found reading, doing crossword puzzles or watching nature documentaries with wolves being his favourite. There was always a rescued animal or two living at the Fojts house. Henryk was often seen walking the dog (Sheeba) and the cat (Cleo) off the leash around the block.
Henryk enjoyed going on family road trips visiting friends and family or going back to Poland to see his twin brother Kazik. They often shared memories of their youth and how they used to trick people and their teachers because nobody could not tell the twins apart.
The family would like to thank all of the staff at Fred Douglas Lodge for the ongoing care they have provided Henryk over the past 3 years and continue to provide for his wife Krystyna. The care he was given was extraordinary.
