Obituary of ERIC ARTHUR SPITZKE
After a long battle with cancer, Eric passed peacefully at Health Sciences Centre with his family by his side on July 18, 2023.
He will be deeply missed by his wife of 64 years, Gail, his children; Janet, Derrick (Sharon), Stuart (Laureen) and his sister, Ruth, brother in-law, Barry (Debbie), sister in-law, Tanis (Hans). Predeceased by his son, Kevin, father, Alexander, mother, Emma, brother Leo and sister Olga. He was a devoted grandfather to Clint, Aylicia (Tyler), Keaton (Katrina), Mackenna, Alex, his great grandson, Zion and was a loving uncle to his nieces and nephews. Eric’s commitment and dedication to all his family was endless and without condition.
Eric was born in Minitonas, Manitoba on September 28, 1936 and moved to Winnipeg where he met Gail and married on April 4, 1959. At the start of his varied and successful employment, he worked with the railroad, as a driver for Canadian Linens and a bus driver for City of Winnipeg Transit. He then moved into sales selling World Book Encyclopedia, which led him to a long career as a top agent and eventually into management with London Life until he retired in 1992.
Eric loved his yearly trips to BC, and spending time with family and friends at Hillside Beach Trailer Park where in 1974, he helped establish one of the most successful co-operatives in the province and was an active member of the board for many years. He participated in bowling and curling leagues, but his real passion was golf. He was a member of the Garden City Seniors Club for many years and developed many friendships during his time there. Eric was a loving and caring family man, who devoted his life to his entire family. His leadership and love will not be forgotten.
Our most heartfelt appreciation to the staff at St. Boniface Hospital, Ward 4E, for their excellent care of our dad.
