Obituary of DONALD DAVIES
Born September 20, 1942
Died July 19, 2023
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Donald Edward Davies on July 19, 2023 leaving behind his wife and best friend of 56 years, Lenore, his children of whom he was so proud, Cory, Jonah & Nicole, and Amber & Brad and his beautiful grandchildren who he got such a kick out of, Jacob, Elias, Hendrix and Chloe. The last of the Davies siblings, Dad passed away leaving many nieces, nephews, family, friends and wonderful neighbours.
Don was born in Yorkton, Saskatchewan and moved to Winnipeg as a young boy. He took after his father’s love of cars and had a life long career servicing, selling and maintaining vehicles, including with his own car lot. He was a 30 plus year employee of Birchwood GM. He also passed on this love of cars onto nephews, neighbours, friends and was always available and loved the challenge of diagnosing a car problem, especially when his kids called with “Dad, my car is making a funny noise.”
Don’s love of hockey was evident in his coaching of his boys’ teams over many years. He loved watching the Jets games with Mom, and they planned much of their routines around when the games were on.
Don loved his family and there was no shortage of family time, good food and photos, when all of his kids and grandkids were together. He had a great sense of humour and quick wit that kept him the life of the party. Quiet in recent years, Dad would come out of nowhere with a one liner that caused the whole room to burst out in laughs.
Dad loved Mom and would often voice his affection and appreciation for her, telling us all how amazing she was. He was proud of each of his kids and loved hearing about everything his grandkids had to share. He also loved to share tall tales. He was a story teller extraordinaire, and even those closest to him occasionally questioned if his stories were true.
The favourite Uncle Donnie will be missed by so many. Whether he helped them buy their first car, wrestled like a champion with them, or told the best jokes, everyone will miss the good man that he was.
Funeral Liturgy will take place Friday, July 28th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 250 Burrin Avenue. Interment of ashes at Holy Ghost Cemetery, 4387 Main Street.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Canadian Lung Association or a charity of your choice.
