Obituary of LEONARD WAYNE SMITH

It is with profound sadness we share that our Husband, Father, Grandpa, Great Grandpa, Brother, Uncle and Friend Leonard Wayne Smith passed away peacefully on July 20th, 2023 with his family by his side.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Carol, son Ward (Teresa), daughter Cara (Blaine), son Clayton (Shara), son Tyler (Sandy). His grandchildren, Michael, Brittany, Kyle, Kathy, Kaitlyn (Zac), Kelsey, Hailey (Austin), Talor (Skye), Emily (Jake), Ben (Hope), Jay and Brett. His great grandchildren, Logan, Lucille and Joseph. Brother Lawry (Gloria) as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents Peter and Elizabeth, sisters Betty, Irene, Marjorie and Ruth, brothers Jim and Orland.

Dad loved spending his time with his family whenever possible. From the many times Dad and Mom would rent cabins, so we could all be together, to parties and dances in the kitchen and basement with not only family but many friends. Dad taught us all how to BBQ, fish, hunt, golf, drive, and most of all to love one another always. He showed us this with the many visits we shared with his brothers and sisters.

Dad worked for London Life for 35 years and was so happy when he retired at 55 to spend time with the love of his life, kids and grandkids. Dad made many friends at work, that became like family to all of us. Dad was also the President of the Garden City Seniors Golf Association and he was so proud of that and enjoyed every moment with his many friends that he made. Dad had such an impact on so many people’s lives that will never be forgotten.

His grandchildren and great grandchildren were everything to him. They had lots of sleepovers, taking them for rides to Bird’s Hill, to see the horses, tobogganing and best of all fries.

Dad was so proud of all of us and our families. He beamed when we were all together. We called him the Godfather and we were his Mafia family (that’s a joke of course) and he couldn’t be prouder.

Stud muffin, Dad, Father, Daddy-O, Papa, Grandpa we’re so grateful for having you in our lives. Our hearts are broken, we’ll take care of mom. We love and will miss you beyond words! Until we meet again, be at peace and we’ll always keep your memory alive.

Thank you to the amazing staff at Misericordia Hospital and treating our dad with dignity and respect.  We’re truly grateful for your compassion.

A private interment will be held. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Alzheimer’s (dementia) Society.
