Obituary of JOHN RAYMOND LASKEY
March 11, 1924 – July 31, 2023
Dad passed away in St. Boniface Hospital, at the age of 99 years.
Jack is predeceased by his wife of 73 years Gwen and his daughter Arlie Jane, both who passed on last year.
Jack is survived by his daughter Roxanne Piché (Michael), granddaughters Jessica Piché, Sarah Piché and great grandson Matthew Youst. Brother, Dan Laskey and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Dad spent his early years helping out on his grandparents’ farm in Komarno MB. He talked of helping with the harvest and being able to work with the horses which he loved.
Jack enlisted in 1942 during WWII with the Canadian Air Force as a medic and also a trumpeter. He also served as a guard at the Nuremburg Trials in 1945.
After his service ended, he spent time traveling with Gospel Revival teams across western Canada and the U.S. playing trumpet and singing.
Dad later worked at Glenwood Motors as an accountant and also started selling cars. He later bought a partnership and loved helping people find just the right car for them.
Mum and dad married in 1949 and had 73 years of marriage and 2 daughters.
They had a life that was filled with lots of love and laughter, never a dull moment for these two. Entertaining, traveling, curling, golfing, boating, cross country skiing and biking were what they loved to do together.
They were devoted to Calvary Temple and its many activities. Dad played 40 plus years with the Calvary Temple Brass Band, the church choir. Faith to live by and always encouraged others to get involved.
Jack was also part of the Northwinds Community Band for many years playing concerts around the city.
Dad retired in the 1990’s and was delighted to become “Grandpa” to Jessica and Sarah.
Dad and mum still traveled, taking cruises to Alaska and visiting family in Canada and the U.S.
When mum passed, he missed her so much and now they are together again, united with God, Lord and Saviour.
