Obituary of LORRAINE CYNTHIA CARTMAN
LORRAINE CARTMAN
It is with profound sadness, that the family of Lorraine Cartman announces her passing on August 1, 2023 at the Grace Hospital in Winnipeg.
Left to cherish her memory are her two sons, Marty (Jenny), Jim (Nadine), four beautiful granddaughters, Dallas (Lucas), Kailee, Kristen (Evan), Amanda (Matthew), as well as her precious great-grandchild Vance, along with many cousins, extended family and friends.
She was predeceased by her loving husband, Richard (Bud) of 42 years, her mother, Carrie Pelechaty, her stepfather, Mike Pelechaty and her father, Joseph Nazare.
Lorraine was born in Winnipeg on April 12, 1936, and met her soulmate, Bud, through close friends. They married on November 25, 1955 and embarked on their adventure together, raising their two sons who they both were very proud of.
Mom was a dedicated, hard worker all of her life. She worked for ten years at the St. Vital Civic Office before focusing on family-owned businesses with her husband and sons. She worked extremely hard in all of the family ventures, whether it was helping to run Gondola Pizza on both Pembina Hwy and Henderson Hwy, the Mr. Video store on Pembina Hwy and the Dollar Store Plus location in Eaton Place which she operated by herself after the passing of Bud in 1997.
Mom and Dad planned and took time for many memorable family vacations every summer. They would take us on camping trips to California and the Oregon coast with our trailer. We also have fond memories camping at Pye’s Landing with Mom and Dad’s best friend’s Helen and Borden Semkiw and their kids, Denise and Gary. Once we grew up, they would travel on their own, making numerous trips to Las Vegas which they both loved.
Her four granddaughters were very precious to her. Granny would do anything for them and spoiled them every chance she had, especially at Christmas and special occasions. She would have the girls over for many sleep overs which they all loved. As they grew older, mom was always concerned about their well-being and always made time for them if they ever needed anything.
Shortly after she retired from business-life, mom opened her home to Bailey, a golden retriever who she loved dearly. He kept her busy and active by going to Maple Grove dog park followed by a trip through McDonald’s drive-thru for a treat.
A special thank you to Dr. Hayward who cared for mom with compassion and kindness for many years. Thank you also to the nurses, home care staff and doctors, who cared for her in her recent years and in her final days. A heartfelt thank you to her close friend, Helen Semkiw and cousin Janette Davis, whose help, love and support was appreciated by mom and her family.
Mom, thank you for your devoted love, support and guidance. You made many sacrifices for your family, often putting family first and yourself last. We love you and hope that you are now at peace and that you and Dad are together again.
As per Mom’s wishes, a formal funeral will not take place. A private family graveside will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
