Obituary of BERNICE WITWICKI
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Bernice Witwicki on August 25 at age 93 following a brief hospital stay.
Bernice had many talents and interests and kept very busy through all the years since she retired in September 1990. Her zest for life well into her golden years was an inspiration, and even after some physical setbacks she still embraced life to the fullest. She loved her Roslyn Road neighborhood and lived independently in her own condo for 38 years until she moved to assisted living a month before her passing. She remained very active doing all the things she loved until quite recently: taking cooking and art classes, attending concerts, social events, seniors bus trips and church on Sunday. She also enjoyed singing in several choirs, going to senior’s dances and gardening at a community garden well into her senior years. She loved to try new recipes and shared her cooking and baking with her family, friends and neighbors. Until last year she still hand-painted her own greeting cards for every occasion; her art was always amazing. She showed us how strong and determined she was after making an impressive recovery from a stroke in 2010, and again after being hit by a car in 2015. She easily made friends wherever she went. She was well liked by so many for her thoughtfulness and friendly personality and admired for her energy, strength and determination in persevering through challenges, especially in her later years.
"Auntie Bea" was a much loved and very special aunt to her nieces and nephews, their spouses and children. Our hearts are broken at having lost her and she will be very deeply missed.
Special thanks to her nephew Vince for all he did in her last couple of years to enable her to continue to live independently, which was so important to her. Auntie Bea was very grateful.
Bernice is survived by her sister Phyllis, nephew Vince (Gail), nieces Carol (Ben), Barbara (Gord), Leslie (David) and Linda (Chris); as well as her great-nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her father Frank (1967), mother Josephine (2000), brother John (1951), brother Edward (2004), sister Florence (2005), sister Evelyn (2018), and nephew John (2012).
