Wayne always took great delight in introducing himself as a “Red Neck”. Thinking back, he never ever said what his definition of a red neck was. From my definition, the only time I would call Wayne a true red neck was when he stood in the sun too long without a hat.
But if Wayne’s definition of a red neck was: a person that deeply cared for others and their safety; wanted to have a leadership role; had a great sense of humor; was a wonderful natural MC; loved to tell stories and jokes; knew every word to every song, but couldn’t carry a tune in a basket; one who would listen to others so he could learn from them; had an ego big enough to be a good leader, but one small enough to know he didn’t know it all; one that could be dressed up as Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, Tigger, bare chested as a Chippendale model or wear a coconut bra and grass skirt in front of a room full of friends, family or strangers with equal aplomb. If that was his definition, then Wayne truly was a Red Neck.
Every time I was at an event that Wayne was the MC, I would remember the time he MCed Emily H’s birthday party and he told the joke about “the Lady going to a tailor to get a new suit fitted”. It was so funny and inappropriate and only Wayne could have pulled it off. Come to think of it maybe he was the other kind of red neck after all.
I also remember that every time I entered an elevator and saw Wayne’s name on the posted certification sheet, I thanked him and felt safe because I knew he was looking out for us. I still feel him looking out for us.
Thank you my friend.

I was very saddened to hear about the passing of Wayne! We were neighbors growing up in Swan River so have known you for a long time! I'm so happy we were able to get together for special occasions and was thrilled to be able to attend his retirement dinner which was full of a lot of laughs! R.I.P my friend!

Cheryl and family, I was devastated to learn of Wayne's passing. As an engineering classmate and then his room-mate in The Pas that summer of 1970, I was fortunate to reconnect with Wayne by phone last Dec. after 50 years and sad we did not meet up again. His smile and keen insight will be missed. He was a fine man. Garry Bolton

I'll always remember Wayne as a kind soul with a constant smile and contageous laugh. As a kid he was the first true "celebrity" that I knew and anytime I entered an elevator in the 80s and 90s I'd be proud to point out to others that "I know the guy that signed the paper. Close friend of the family". Along with Church and KPs I'll always remember the legendary Grey Cup parties. Good times with great people.
An amazing man through and through.
Condolences and love from our family to yours. ❤️

I have so many great memories of Mr Mault, as a child growing up with his sons I was around quite a bit. I remember many conversations around the dinner table about sports, politics, religion, life lessons. There was always something to be learnt from him. He was truly a man to look up to. He was not my father, but I loved and respected him as mine. Rest in peace Dad. Love Kevin
