Obituary of ALMA ELIZABETH WALKER

July 31, 1938 – September 19, 2023

After a brief illness, it is with sadness that we announce that Alma passed away on September 19th, 2023 at St. Boniface Hospital at the age of 85. Alma was predeceased by her father, Michael Wawryk and mother, Elizabeth Wawryk.

Alma is lovingly remembered by her husband of 63 years Cyril Walker, children Rob Walker (Cathy), Ray Walker (Linda) of Brandon, and Karen Haluschak (Ed); grandchildren Karina Walker (Matt Levins), Michael Walker (Erin), Tyson McRae, and Eric McRae both of Brandon.

She also leaves her sister, Marie Young, nieces Lori Vouriot (Rob), Lynn Young (Gil Brunette) and great-nephew Tyson Vouriot.

Alma was born in Selkirk, MB and lived on a farm near Petersfield, until the family moved into Winnipeg. She attended Daniel McIntyre High School and then on to Success Business College. She was a secretary for CP Rail where she met Cyril in the Local Freight Department.

Alma and Cyril resided and raised their children in North Kildonan. They lived in the NK area for over 60 years. Alma spent many hours with her children at the NK Community Club and worked the canteen while her children participated in sports. Alma was an avid league bowler at Billy Mosienko’s and loved the time and friendships created there. Alma always enjoyed playing cards and was the first to offer up a quick game of crib. She discovered a strong passion for crafting, establishing Alma’s Creative Crafts and hosting many shows in her basement and as well as several community clubs. Her love of fall and Christmas shone through in elaborate wreath creations accompanied by her custom snowmen. Alma’s other passion was cooking and baking. Her chocolate chip cookies were always in high demand. Family camping trips were exciting times for Alma and she enjoyed the adventures shared. Alma loved seeing different parts of the world and traveling with Cyril always brought her great joy. Travel to destinations such as Bahamas, Puerto Rico, Cancun, Arizona, Reno and of course Vegas was always enjoyed.

Alma’s first priority was always her family. She was extremely proud of her children and grandchildren.

The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to all staff for the exceptional care afforded to Alma while at Concordia Urgent Care and the 4A South Unit, St. Boniface Hospital.
