Obituary of NELLIE ANGELA PEYKO
Peacefully on October 10, 2023 Nellie passed away at the age of 101 years with family by her side.
She is survived by her husband Sylvester, sister Rose Desautels, grandson Jerren (Angie), her cherished great grandchildren Kaylee, Kayd and Hunter, daughter-in-law Mich Ezako as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Nellie is predeceased by her son Gregory, parents, and siblings Mike, John, Peter, Bertha, Anne and Frances.
Nellie was born in Winnipeg Beach, MB to Mary and Alex Strileski, the oldest of 8 children. She worked hard on the farm with her family before moving to Winnipeg. Nellie always had fond memories of her life at Winnipeg Beach.
Nellie met Syl at a New Years Eve dance and a relationship blossomed. They were married on October 12, 1957. Married, they settled in a home in Garden City where they raised their family and lived for more than 60 years. Nellie easily made friends who kept in touch and always saw Nellie as a kind, generous person who loved people and loved to cook. If you came to the house, you would likely find Nellie in the kitchen. As one of Jehovah’s Witnesses she truly loved God and reading the Bible. She looked forward to a time when the earth would soon be a Paradise and sickness and death would be gone forever (Rev. 21:3, 4). Nellie will be forever missed and remembered by her family and those who knew her.
Special thanks to the staff at Maples Personal Care Home.
A funeral service will be held on October 20, 2023 at 2:00 pm (Visitation at 1:00 pm) Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. A private burial will follow.
