ROBERT (BOB) ALVIN GREGORY FRIESEN
Born September 15, 1944 - October 27, 2023
Bob Friesen passed away peacefully on October 27, 2023 at Kin Place, Oakbank at the age of 79.
Bob will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Irene and his daughter, Maureen (Ron) and son, Guy, grandchildren Jaylene and Cayden and step-grandchildren Kyle (Brenna), Riley, (Cassie) and great-grandchildren, Everleigh and Theo.
He was predeceased by his parents Isbrand and Christine Friesen and siblings Jean, Jackie, Diane, Jack and Barry and in-laws Mike and Mary and Bob W.
He leaves with his memory his sister, Joyce (Gerry), in-laws John (Ruth), Joy, Janet (Glen), Shirley (Bob) and many nieces, nephews and extended family.
Bob was born and raised in Transcona. Bob’s positive friendly attitude was apparent from a young age, when he was nick-named Sunny. He met and married Irene in 1968. Bob and Irene celebrated 55 years of marriage. He was a devoted and loving husband. He worked as a mechanic at Frank’s Automotive and later at Fort Ignition, ending his career at Able Movers Ltd. working on cranes. Bob enjoyed spending time for many years at the farm in Fisher Branch with the Peto family. He was an avid outdoorsman, so much so his children were thought to be raised in the country sharing the same love of the outdoors. He loved his children and they were often by his side on hunting, fishing and snowmobiling adventures.
Grandchildren were a special joy for Papa and he was always taking them out to find critters, pull them around the yard behind a snowmobile, quad, sleigh or snuggle on the couch. Bob and his family spent 50 years camping at Big Whiteshell Lake where he made many long-time friends sharing morning coffee, swims at the beach when it was hot, impromptu potlucks, evening fires, wood cutting days, fishing, nightcrawler picking and mushroom hunts. Bob was very social, loved visiting and always willing to help where he could. We will all miss his laughter, stories and wisdom. Family would like to thank the staff at Kin Place for their care in the last years of Bob’s life.
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to Kin Place Personal Care Home - Recreation Fund.
A Celebration of Bob’s Life will be held on Monday, November 6, 2023 at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1800 Day Street, at 2:00 pm.
