It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Patricia Elizabeth Cameron (nee Morrice) on January 3, 2024. 

Mom was predeceased by her parents Eva and Alexander, along with her second husband, Ronald (Ron) Cameron. She leaves to mourn her son Scott Graham-Derham (Maia) and their children, Layton and Ethan, her brother Ron and sister Donalda (Joe). Also left to mourn are her step children Robert, Janice (Lawrence), Jeff and Ronnie, along with many step-grandchildren.

Mom was born in Broadview, Saskatchewan in the fall of 1942, the oldest of three children in the Morrice household. She spent her childhood and formative years in the town and would return often throughout her life to visit friends and family. Her high school years saw her gravitate to what became some of her life long passions, dancing and sports. She was an exceptional public speaker, having represented her school at provincial competitions three years in a row. 

Following her graduation mom moved east to Winnipeg to start her studies at the St. Boniface General Hospital School of Nursing. In 1963 she graduated as an RN and went to work in the operating rooms at St. Boniface. Early in her career mom got the teaching bug, originally serving as the in-service educator for the operating room and recovery sections, before returning to school in the early 1970s. She obtained her BN from the University of Saskatchewan and eventually found her way 'home' to the St. Boniface General Hospital School of Nursing. Mom was an exceptional teacher who helped to train the next generation in both the Licensed Practical Nurse and Registered Nurse programs. 

Upon her retirement Mom embarked on a number of activities including caring for children, selling clothes and setting up a bed & breakfast. However, the activities were not full time and Mom had more time for all the pastimes that brought her joy, whether it was socializing, curling, golfing, lawn bowling or dancing. Mom was an especially keen dancer whether it was polka-fests in Saskatchewan or old-timer dances in Manitoba she was likely to be found on the dance floor. She was also a relentless traveller starting first on her own, then with her son and eventually Ron, her many close friends, family and niece Ronda. Mom's adventurous spirit took her to all three Canadian coasts, the US, the Carribean, northern and western Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Egypt and Israel. 

Throughout her life Mom forged many lasting friendships, whether through her various studies, professional career, recreational activities, or just life. She took the opportunity to strengthen and renew many of these in later years, especially following her stroke in late 2021. While Mom had the determination to remain at home, it was the support of home care and the community that she had nurtured over her life that helped her to do so. Special acknowledgement to her dominos crew and her friends and neighbors in the block, especially, Jackie, Carol, Kathy, Jim and Diane. 

A special thank you to the stroke rehabilitation staff at Deer Lodge, Riverview Health Centre, Easy Street and all the home care staff, who's caring and professionalism supported Mom over the past two years. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Stroke Recovery Assocation of Manitoba. Funeral service to be held at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. on Thursday, January 18, 2024 at 1:00 p.m.
