Obituary of CONRAD ORLAND FISK

CONRAD ORLAND FISK

It is with much sadness we announce the passing of Conrad Orland Fisk , beloved husband and father to our family.

Dad passed away peacefully on January 1 2024 at the age of 91 in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

We ask all not mourn or grieve his passing but remember him with smiles and laughter as he knows one day we will meet again, and he will greet us all with that same smile and laughter.

Dad was predeceased by both parents, father Helmer Axle Fisk and his mother, Flossie Fisk as well as two sisters, Patricia Desrochers of Atikokan, Ontario and sister Joan Ruck

Dad is lovingly remembered by his wife of over 71 years, Irene, his children, son’s Rodney (wife Milena) of Winnipeg, Mb., Sheldon (wife Shanti) of Edmonton, Evan (wife Karen) of Winnipeg, Renold (wife Brenda) of Winnipeg Manitoba and daughter Charlene Curtis of Coalhurst Alberta

He also left behind his pride and joy of 19 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.

He will be deeply missed by brothers Donald (wife Paulette) of Sparwood B.C. and Gerald (wife LuAnn) of Bergland Ont., as well as two sisters, Gwen Jenson of LaComb Alberta and Janice Abstreiter of Glenella, Mb., along with numerous nieces, nephews and extended family

Dad was born and raised in Bergland Ontario and met mom while working as a fishing guide at a resort in Nestor Falls Ontario where she worked in housekeeping. They married on December 2, 1952 then moved to Atikokan, Ontario, happily working and raising their family on Mercury Avenue where he eagerly watched his kids race stock cars, fish, hunt and trap, race motocross and build amazing plastic models.

In 2017, Dad and Mom moved to Sanford, Manitoba to be close to their children and grandchildren.  While in Atikokan dad spent half his working years as a mechanic working in both Steep Rock and Caland Ore iron mines. After mine closures, he worked for Great Lakes Pulp and Paper in remote camps until he retired in 1995 at the age of 62.

Dad loved the outdoors, fishing and hunting with his friends and family and always knowing where the hot spots were to fish. He loved camping, planting and growing his garden, woodworking in his garage (he custom made elaborate spring wound clocks for all his kids) and fixing anything that we broke. Dad just loved music! He would play for all who would listen.

He loved his accordion but would play his piano, guitar and banjo with equal fervor and love. In his early years he was a member of several bands and especially loved playing with his dad and brothers at every opportunity. Dad had a very personal, deep belief in God and was an active and devout life-long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints, holding local leadership roles as Branch President in Fort Frances then Atikokan. Dad’s life truly reflected his deep love for family and faith.

We will love and remember you forever. Rest in peace dad. We will meet again!
