GREGORY PAUL MAXIM

January 5,1951 to January 11, 2024

On January 11, 2024, Gregory passed away unexpectedly.

He was born in Winnipeg and resided in Transcona much of his life. He was proud of his roots. He attended elementary and high schools in the community. After graduation, he pursued studies at the University of Manitoba in the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Dentistry. After graduation, opened his practice in Transcona where he devotedly served the community for forty years. He was no stranger to patient emergencies and highly respected within the profession.

He was a renaissance man of many interests, a scholar first and foremost, with a penchant for history particularly the Colonial American period and the lives of those instrumental to the development of its democracy. He constructed a home in Springfield modeled after Monticello, the home of Thomas Jefferson.

He inherited his father’s love of the outdoors and skills as a craftsman with many unique features of his home reflecting their application. In his younger days he was athletic, being an accomplished badminton and tennis player and a big proponent of the family cottage at Brereton Lake.

He met the love of his life, Charlene in 1988. They enjoyed traveling, spending much time in Virginia, and caring for family and elderly parents. Family gatherings and festivities hosted by them were legendary. Greg adored spending time with his many nieces and nephews inspiring a generation of avid readers, bow tie and novelty sock wearers, and American history buffs. He enjoyed educating them on Thomas Jefferson and Monticello as well as Southern culture in general.

Greg and Charlene were members of the Corvette Club of Manitoba. They enjoyed many years of dinner runs, trips, and slalom racing, making lifelong friends in the process.

Greg was exceptionally generous and a donor to many causes, always finding time for those in need. The support was cross generational and extended beyond family to ones of the four-legged variety. His legacy is one of caring. He cared for others throughout his life and as an exemplar, encouraged others to do the very same.

He was predeceased by his parents, Maron and Anne, and leaves his devoted life partner Charlene, brother Hilary (Ellen), sisters Yvonne and Joy (Mike) and extended family members. Greg also leaves to mourn a wonderful work family; Andrea, Tammy, Hannah and Christina. He loved all the staff lunches, dinners and celebrations. You provided many fun, enjoyable times, enhancing his working hours. Thank you!
