In Loving Memory of Wanda Karoline Werestiuk (NEE Cembruch)

Wanda Werestiuk, a woman of grace, love, and enduring strength, departed from this world on January 12, 2024, at the age of 76.

Wanda will be lovingly remembered by her husband Emil, of 56 years, brother Joseph Cembruch (Betty). A devoted mother to her daughters, Christine, Cherrie, and Carla. Grandchildren Sean (Michelle), Tyler (Emelda), Brett (Cameryn), Shane (Megan) and great-grandchildren Peter, Benjamin, Ashton and soon-to-be-born, baby Sophia. She was predeceased by her father Jan Cembruch (deceased 1975) and Helen Cembruch (deceased 2015). She is also remembered by numerous friends, relatives, and all those whose lives she touched.

Born on June 19, 1947, in Poland, Wanda, graced the world with her presence and touched the lives of all who knew her. Mom, with her family, came to Canada in 1959 growing up in the North End. She graduated from St. John’s High School and soon after that met and married Emil on September 2, 1967.

Wanda embraced life with a spirit of resilience and kindness that left an indelible mark on everyone she encountered. Her unwavering love and selflessness defined her role as a Mother, shaping the lives of her children with wisdom, compassion, and boundless affection. She made a haven of warmth, humour, and unconditional love for everyone who entered her home.

Wanda, a multitalented young lady, managed to balance marriage, part-time modelling, and a family while working at MTS. When daughter #3 was born, she stayed at home and helped out with the family business, Transcona Garden Supplies. When her girls became older, Kildonan Place Shopping Centre was built and Wanda became a part-time sales associate in the jewelry department and modelled for The Bay. Later she would move on to work at her brother's business, Kildonan Custom Upholstery.

In her community, Wanda was known for her kindness and willingness to lend a helping hand. Her charitable endeavours and contributions were a testament to her belief in the importance of giving back and making a difference in the lives of others. A dedicated member of Blessed Sacrament Parish for almost 50 years, Mom volunteered with the CWL, helped raise money for the church by running the Polish booth at the Bazaar and volunteered in the church kitchen.

Wanda’s joy in the simple pleasures of life, and her laughter were infectious. Even after her diagnosis with Multiple Sclerosis, in 1992, her ability to find beauty in the ordinary and strength in adversity served as a guiding light for those who had the privilege of sharing in her journey.

Wanda found solace and strength in prayer, and her belief in God's love was a source of comfort during times of sorrow. Her unwavering trust in the divine plan allowed Mom to face life's challenges with resilience and a sense of peace.  Every day, she awoke with a smile ready to face life's challenges with love, generosity, and inclusiveness for all. It did not matter if Mom was heading to Safeway down the street, going to work at the Bay, or waiting for homecare to come, she always looked stunning.

Friends and family are invited to join in honouring and remembering a remarkable woman who brought joy, love, and inspiration to all. A memorial service to celebrate Wanda’s life and honour her devotion to God will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at Blessed Sacrament Church, 710 Roanoke St. with Father Gerry Ward presiding. Viewing will take place at 9:30 a.m. for 45 minutes. The funeral will begin at 10:30 a.m. followed by burial at Holy Ghost Cemetery, 4387 Main St. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Sean, Tyler, Brett, Shane, Mom’s dear friend, Teresa and family friend Connor.

We'd like to express our gratitude to Mom's homecare workers for their devotion and love, as well as the staff at St. Boniface and Concordia Hospitals who have cared for her over the years.

You are asked to dress in your nicest attire in honour of our Mother.

In memory of Wanda, the family requests that donations be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society. Wanda’s family will continue to cherish and carry forward the love and values she instilled in them. Rest in peace, Wanda. Your faith was a light that brightened our lives, and you will be deeply missed. “You were our Earthly Angel and now you will be our Heavenly Angel.”
