Obituary of LEE OPITZ
LEE OPITZ
(nee Lena Ewatski)
May 3, 1929 – January 24, 2024
Lee passed away peacefully in the loving care of Holy Family Home on January 24th, at the age of 94 years.
Lee was born in Winnipeg, and grew up in the North End, where she met the love of her life Andy. They were married for 65 loving, devoted years. Throughout her lifetime, Mom’s priority was always for the well-being of her family. We were blessed to always have her love and never ending support. She had a kind heart, and was always willing to help out family, friends, and even strangers.
Lee enjoyed watching her grandchildren grow up and supported all of their endeavors. She was very proud of each and every one. Within the last ten years, her great-grandchildren brought her much joy and laughter.
Mom was an active, long-time member of St. Alphonsus Church. She was proud to be a Catholic Women’s League member for 63 years. She was a Brownie Leader and volunteered for many other roles, including quite a few years of weekly perogy making. Mom’s faith and prayer were an important part of her life.
Lee was predeceased by her loving husband Andy, infant son Andrew, her parents Michael and Mary, her siblings Metro, Bill, John, Peter, Fred, Mary and Joe.
Lee will be lovingly missed by daughters Susan (Russ), Janet (Mike), Joanne (Ken), and Pat, her ten grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren, many members of the Ewatski and Opitz families, and many friends.
The family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the staff of Holy Family Home for their compassionate, loving care of Mom.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Alphonsus Church, Munroe Avenue and Brazier Street.
