She is loving remembered by her children, Barbara, Richard (Shirley) and Donna (Craig). Grandchildren, Tina (Alex), Becky, Tanya (Scott), Trevor, Heather (Dean), Jennifer, Chad McKenzie. 17 Great Grandchildren and 2 Great - Great Grandchildren. Maria was predeceased by her parents and 3 sisters. Her infant daughter Halina, her husband John and her granddaughter Kimberly.

Maria was born on March 7, 1923, in a village in the Ukraine to Bazyl and Maria Tomaszewski. Her family lived there happily until the Second World War started and the Nazis came.  They were taken to Germany where she was separated from her family to work on a farm.  After the war ended Mom was put into a camp for displaced persons in Lubeck.  There she met and fell in love with John.  They were married in 1946. They had their first child, Halina, who died in infancy.  They had another daughter,
Barbara.  In 1948 John went ahead to start a new life in Canada.  Maria and daughter followed him a few months later. They settled in Winnipeg in 1950 within the Polish community. A son, Richard, was born in 1950. A daughter, Donna, was born in 1955.  Their family was complete.

Mom loved taking care of her family.  She especially loved it when her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren were born. She was an amazing Babcia. She was an excellent homemaker and cook.  She was well- known for her delicious meatballs and gravy.   She also loved gardening and taking care of her flowers.

Mom was very strong in her religion.  She was a founding member of her beloved church St. Andrew Bobola. She was a member of the Woman’s Catholic League at the church.  She belonged to Polish
Sokol Hall #2 and was the gospodyna for many years.  She also belonged to the Polish Legion Branch 246.

Mom remained in her home for 60 years until she was 98 years old.  She spent the last 2 years at the Maples Personal Care Home where she was well cared for.

The family would like to thank our parish priest Father Walery for his spiritual guidance and for the monthly visits that Mom looked forward to.  We would also like to thank the wonderful staff on 2 West at the Maples for their loving care and compassion of our mother.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 8 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Andrew Bobola Roman Catholic Church, 541 Marion Street with Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:00 a.m.  Interment will be in Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens.
