GEORGE SAPROWICH
MAY 15, 1930 - APRIL 17, 2024

George passed away peacefully at Kildonan Personal Care Home where he lived for the past 18 months. George was pre-deceased by his wife Gloria to whom he was married for 47 years. He was also predeceased by siblings John, Nick, Mary, Bill, Anne, Florence, Lee, John, Sonia and his sister-in-law Frances. He will be lovingly remembered by his children Douglas, Marcy (Mark) and Debra (Lance), granddaughters Jessica (Brad), Kailyn and Brooke, step grandson Kyle (Helgi), and great grandchildren Linden and Alder. He is also survived by brothers Frank (Mariette) and Alec (Betty) and sisters-in-law Sonja and June. “Uncle George” left an endearing impression on his many nieces and nephews.

George was born in Gardenton, Manitoba and left at a young age to find work in the big city of Winnipeg. He worked at CN Rail for 35 years until his retirement after which he still maintained friendships with former co-workers. George enjoyed gardening, listening to music, bowling and volunteering at various clubs through which he made lifelong friends. He loved a good road trip with many family vacations involving loading the kids into the van and driving to various places in Canada and the States, quoting Willie Nelson’s “On the road again”. Despite living in the city, he maintained a strong connection to his prairie hometown and he and Gloria enjoyed spending many summer weekends relaxing at “the farm”.

George and Gloria lived and raised their family in Point Douglas. In his later years he still liked to putter around his house and yard and always ensured the birds, cats and local wildlife were well fed. George was a staple on his street for over 50 years with many of his neighbours looking out for him when he was living on his own following Gloria’s passing. He will be fondly remembered by all for his kindness and generosity, his ability to connect with people young and old, and for his witty sense of humour always accompanied by a twinkle in his eye.

The family would like to thank the staff at Kildonan Personal Care Home. No funeral service will be held as Dad would not want anyone to make a fuss. A private celebration of George’s life will occur at a later date.
