Obituary of JOHN DUCHARME
JOHN DUCHARME
September 4, 1919 – April 12, 2013
Peacefully with family at his side John Ducharme passed away at Seven Oaks Hospital on April 12, 2013 at age 93.
He will be greatly missed by his children Wayne (Carmen) of Scottsdale, AZ, Lynda (Bill) Nicholls, Arlene Shannon, Sharon (Brian) Snyder. Also left to mourn are his grandchildren Kevin, Chris and Tanya of Winnipeg, Holly, Monica and Fernando of California and 7 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife of 52 years Kay, in 1993, parents Adele and Olier, brothers Albert, Gregoire, Paul, Emile; sisters Josephine, Leontine, Dora, Marion and Eva.
Dad was born in Ste. Anne, MB but was raised in Ste. Rita. After marrying in 1941 he and mom moved to Winnipeg. Dad would become a carpenter and worked for different construction companies through the years. He retired at age 65 from Sears – Display Dept.
A quiet, unassuming man, dad worked hard all his life. He loved music and taught himself to play the guitar and fiddle. Growing up we enjoyed many occasions listening to dad and our musical relatives play wonderful, lively music. Dad also loved to dance. After Mom’s passing he joined the Norwood Legion and enjoyed Saturday nights of dancing and new friends until his legs became too weak.
Dad was a kind and caring father, grandfather who was always there to help us any way he could. He especially enjoyed family gatherings and regular phone calls and visits from his son Wayne (Carmen) of AZ. He was very independent and lived in his own home until age 91 when health issues made it necessary to move to Maples Personal Care Home. We made the Maples our new meeting place for holiday celebrations.
At age 85 Dad went into renal failure and endured 8 long years of dialysis. He also continually recovered from episodes of respiratory infections; one of which rendered him too weak to walk again. His resilience amazed both his doctors and family. Thankfully dad was a strong man and kept his will to live for his family until the day the Lord called him to join Mom. We take comfort that his frail and tired body will now be at peace.
The family would like to thank the Emergency staff at Seven Oaks Hospital for their care and compassion, the 2East staff at Maples PCH for their patient and friendly care and the staff at Seven Oaks Dialysis for giving us those precious extra years with dad.
Cremation has taken place and a private service was held on Monday, April 15, 2013.
Dad you will forever be in our hearts.
