Lorne was born in Ohla, Manitoba on September 11, 1938, where he spent the early years of his life on the family homestead and completed his high school at Rossburn Collegiate.  Lorne and Vicky were married in 1961.  They made a home in Dauphin, Manitoba, and then in 1974, moved to Winnipeg, living in the communities of St. James, Headingley, and finally East St. Paul.  Lorne was employed with Manitoba Telephone System, working in various positions in the Engineer department for over 37 years.

Upon retirement, Lorne was able to focus on his real passion, community service to the Ukrainian Catholic Church. Lorne was very active in the Knights of Columbus, serving in various roles. He was instrumental in developing numerous new councils throughout the province including Roblin, and St. Basil’s Parish.  He served on several boards of directors and parish councils in Dauphin and Winnipeg; was a member of the building committee for St. Basil’s Church; treasurer for Dauphin’s Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Resurrection; St. Vladimir’s College Parents Committee; Ukrainian Park Camp; fund raising chairman for the building the gymnasium at St. Vladimir’s College, where he raised over one million dollars.  In addition, he served as managing director of St. Vladimir’s College for 3 years. For his service to the Ukrainian Catholic Church, Lorne was named a Knight in Ordinary of St. Gregory the Great by Pope St. John Paul II in 1987.

Lorne and Vicky loved to travel together.  Their travels took them to many places including summer camping trips through western and eastern Canada, Europe, Arizona, Hawaii, Australia, China, and most importantly visiting their four grandchildren.

Cooking was another of Lorne’s passion, always willing to try new recipes and teaching people how to cook for large crowds. He was especially happy in St. Anne’s kitchen, running the very successful fish fries which raised funds for Knights of Columbus charities.  He was also an avid outdoors man, enjoying gardening, hunting and fishing, and telling stories of his adventures.

He will be sorely missed by his family and all who knew him.
