TANAS DENEKA

Obituary of TANAS DENNIS DENEKA

A kind man of gentle spirit left us on Saturday, September 14, 2024 and has now joined his loving wife Alice who predeceased him in 2013. Also predeceased are Dennis’ parents Andrew and Katerina Deneka, his siblings: Katherine Lisowick, John Deneka and Metro Deneka.

He is survived by sister- in-law Emily (Metro) Deneka. Left to cherish his quick witt, charming personality and many heartwarming memories are his nieces and nephew: Margaret du Croix, Lydia Firman, Sharon Melnychuk, Angela Smikles and Hank Deneka along with their extended families.

Dennis was born in Nowy Lubliniec, Poland on August 10, 1932. At the age of four, he immigrated to Canada with his mother and siblings to join their father on a homestead in Okno, Manitoba. Following the completion of his education in Arborg, he moved to Winnipeg and got his first job at The Marlborough Hotel. With his first pay check he purchased a new jacket and said he looked just like James Dean.

In 1954 at a Social Gathering in Winnipeg Dennis met Alice Rojowski, a visitor from Alberta. They dated and were married on October 27, 1956.  Their first home was in Transcona followed by their cherished home in St. James until his passing. He had a long-standing sales career with Welder’s Supplies in Winnipeg. At the age of 61 Dennis took up farming on weekends on the family homestead and neighbouring quarters. He continued grain farming until his senior years.

Funeral Service will be held on Friday, September 20, 2024 at 10:30 am at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street, Winnipeg, MB, Father Michael Winn officiating. Interment to follow at All Saints Cemetery, 4535 Main St. Wpg. Donations may be made to your charity of choice.
