Obituary of Dr. DAVID JAMES ALEXANDER CRAWFORD

David Crawford was born on January 3, 1955, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, to his loving parents, Lovina (Fidler) and David Crawford Sr.

From a young age, David had a passion for learning and led an active lifestyle. He was involved in Boy Scouts and enjoyed playing recreational sports. While attending St. John’s High School in Winnipeg’s North End, his interest in math and the sciences began to take shape, laying the foundation for his future career.

After high school, David attended the University of Manitoba, majoring in pharmaceutical sciences. Here, his hard work and academic excellence earned him the silver medal, a testament to his dedication and talent in his chosen field.

David began his pharmacy career at various pharmacies across Winnipeg, including Glows and Hartford Drugs. It was at Hartford Drugs where he formed lasting friendships with his colleagues and made some of his fondest memories in the profession.

In 1975, David met the love of his life, Carla, during an outing at the local skating rink in Kildonan Park. Their connection grew quickly, and not long after, they married and started a family, eventually welcoming their children, Gillian and Aaron.

In search of a challenge and driven to expand his knowledge, David returned to the University of Manitoba to pursue his medical degree. Upon graduation, Dr. David Crawford began a successful career in Family Medicine that spanned 31 years, distinguished by his compassion, dedication, and the trust of his patients.

David had a deep love for travel, especially during his children's early years. He cherished family camping adventures with the trailer, exploring nearly every province in Canada. These trips were filled with swimming, canoeing, and often a bit of calamity, making them all the more memorable. In more recent years, David traveled with Carla to tropical destinations such as Cozumel and the Cayman Islands, where he enjoyed scuba diving and local cuisine. 

After his retirement, David treasured the time spent with family and friends, often attending sporting events and unwinding at the family’s lake retreat with his cat, Oz, curled up in his lap. He shared a special bond with his two grandchildren, Christopher and Clifford, who brought him immense joy and laughter. It was clear that the boys inspired his playful spirit, creating cherished memories and moments of fun together.

David’s legacy is defined by kindness, service, and unwavering love for his family. He touched the lives of many with his gentle spirit and infectious joy, leaving a profound void in the hearts of all who knew him. As we remember him, his wisdom and love will light our path forever. Until we meet again.
