Obituary of FRANK BERNARD SLIVINSKI

Frank Slivinski 

It is with profound sadness that our family announces the passing of our beloved father, grandfather and great grandfather Frank Slivinski on September 29, 2024.

Frank was born to Anna and Nicholas Slivinski, at their family home on Woodbine Avenue in north Winnipeg, on March 10, 1926.

Frank was predeceased by his dear wife Florence in September 2015, by his parents Anna and Nicholas, and by his siblings William, Genevieve, Caroline and Angela.  Frank was also predeceased by his grandson Corey Habiluk, daughter Catherine Nizio and daughter Teresa Habiluk.  

Dad is survived by his children Marguerite Grela (Don), Pat Sheppard (Neil), Ken Slivinski (Liz), Mark Slivinski (Angela), Jacqueline Chevis (James), and sons-in-law Ed Nizio and Patrick Habiluk.  Dad is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Frank was a long-time member of St. John Cantius Church and Knights of Columbus, St. John's Council 5369.

Frank worked in the bus manufacturing industry for 15 years and at Canadian National Railway, Transcona Shops, as a welder for 25 years.  Respected by many, he worked his way up the ranks, becoming a supervisor at CN.  Frank retired from his employment in 1990.

Dad was an extremely talented handyman.   His garage was always loaded with various pieces of wood and steel of all types and sizes, just in case he needed them.   There was almost nothing he couldn't make or fix, and if he didn't have the part he needed, then he made it.

Dad was a proficient woodworker, turning out many truly beautiful projects.  He was especially good at converting old TV consoles into display cabinetry or cedar chests.  But his true talent was welding. If you needed something welded, or some kind of metalwork fabricated, then he was the guy to ask.  Railings, window bars, fireplace hearths, ornamental yard lights, car ramps, wood burning stoves, and the like, were some of the finest items that he was able to make for family and friends.  Mom was especially pleased with the baker's rack that Dad had made, which stood proudly in the corner of their living room for many years.

Dad was always there to help his children, or borrow us tools which he often had to ask us to return when he needed them.  He helped his children with many household projects, big or small.  Garages, rec rooms, painting, skylights, windows, woodwork, metalwork, you name it, Dad's stamp was on it.

Thank-you Dad for always being there for us.  Your help and guidance will never be forgotten, because "Quite Frankly" there are just too many things in our homes that will remind us of what a wonderful Dad you were.

You are finally joined for eternity with Mom in heaven.  We know you missed her greatly.

Special thanks to all of the wonderful staff at Holy Family Home, Unit 3CN, who took such great care of Dad during his stay there.

Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Ghost Parish, 342 Pritchard Avenue, Winnipeg, on Friday, October 4, 2024 at 10:00am.
