Obituary of ELIZABETH ANNE KOSTENIUK
ELIZABETH “BETTY” KOSTENIUK (NEE STAJNIAK)
1945-2024
It is with a broken heart that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Betty, at the age of 79 years on October 31, 2024.
She was predeceased by her loving husband Vernon, her parents Joseph and Mary Stajniak, her older brother Stanley, younger brother Richard and infant brother Robert. She is survived by her daughter Jackie, son-in-law Randy, grandchildren Brennan and Nicole, and great grandson Sebastian.
Betty was born in Pelly, Saskatchewan. She grew up on the family farm and attended Glenavon School and Corning High School. She worked briefly at the Reginal General Hospital and Montmartre Union Hospital as a nurses’ aid. She then changed her career completely and worked in various departments for the Saskatchewan Government. It was while working for the Saskatchewan Highways and Transportation Department that she met her future husband, Vernon. They married in 1968 and later bought a home in Regina and started a family. She loved to needlepoint and filled her walls with beautiful pictures. She and Dad also loved camping, gardening, Roughrider games, family and friends. They enjoyed over 50 years together.
Once Dad passed and with Mom’s failing health, the family moved her to be closer to them at Sturgeon Creek in Winnipeg. More recently with her health deteriorating, Mom took residence at Riverview Health Centre. Our deepest gratitude to the staff of 2W for their help and support.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Manitoba or Saskatchewan Lung Association. Cremation has taken place and a service will be held in the spring of 2025 in Saskatchewan.
