Obituary of BERNICE CHABLUK

With her family at her side, our beloved mother Bernice (nee Rebeck) passed at 86 years. Bernice was predeceased by her parent’s Bill and Sophie, sisters Connie, Verna, infant brother Raymond, our dad Walter and numerous extended family members.

Mom leaves to mourn her daughters Janie (Bryan), Bonnie (Warren), and Robin. Baba will be greatly missed by her grandchildren Brandi (Jamie), Michele (Darren), Lee (Shaun), Michael (Nikki), Kadie, Nicole (Justin), Alex (Meagan), Meghan (Wyatt), great grandchildren Madison (Gage), Lucas, Chael, Laine, Aelin and great, great grandchild Layton.

Bernice was born on September 17, 1938 in St. Boniface. She grew up in North Point Douglas, but during the summers, she spent them on the farm in Birds Hill, with her cousins and extended family. Barn dances, family gatherings, her love for music and her accordion playing were fondly reminisced around the kitchen table.

Bernice was an accomplished accordion player, At the age of 15, she started teaching accordion at the Ted Komar Music School. She loved to play and entertained at many family and social gatherings. In her later years, she joined the band Quick Silver and they played at senior homes and other venues, which she enjoyed very much.

Mom met Dad when she was a young girl through mutual family friends. As a pre teen, he rode a horse over to see her. She thought to herself, “one day I’ll marry this handsome boy”. On June 15, 1957, she did. Unfortunately the marriage did not last, but our family was for the most part, a happy, loving one.

Mom had a variety of jobs through the years. She took pride in her work and made friends quickly with her easy-going nature. Mom was up for anything and everything and was usually the last to leave or go to bed. Family time was fun time; from roller skating at Wheelies, swimming at Oasis Beach, tobogganing and skating at West K Park or simply enjoying pizza, cold beer and a Bomber game. Just “Give ‘er” mom would say. Life is good was another of her favourite’s.

She loved spending time with her grandchildren. You could find mom cheering in hockey rinks, baseball bleachers, Tae Kwon Do events and piano recitals. Feeding the ducks in the park was always a big hit with the kids. Mom always said how blessed she was. WE were so blessed to have you as a mom. May you find the peace that you so deserve.

The family sincerely would like to extend a special thank-you for the great care the B1 staff provided to her. Heartfelt thanks as well to all the staff at the Middlechurch Home, who treated mom and us with such kindness through the years. God Bless.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, November 26 at 1:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street.
