Obituary of FRANK WOWRYK
Frank Wowryk
Peacefully on December 5th, 2024 at the age of 97 years, Frank left this world to join the love of his life, his wife of 74 years, Martha, who preceded him on July 29th, 2022. Frank was born and raised on the family farm in Kelloe, Manitoba. He was the 10th child of Roy and Annie Wowryk, in a close-knit family that included 20 siblings. Frank met Martha in Shoal Lake, and were married on October 16th, 1948. After moving to Winnipeg, they welcomed their three children Roger (Val), Joanne (James) and Glenn (Val). Frank was beloved Geeg to Chloe (David) and Clare (Chris). He was Geegee-Frank to his great grandchildren Olsen, Oona, Loa and Arden. Memories of his love, gentle manner, kindness, patience, and sense of humor will remain with us forever.
Frank deeply loved his family, caring for his home, planting and harvesting his gardens. Frank was the original “MacGyver”, capable of repairing, and restoring anything that needed fixing. His ingenuity and resourcefulness were developed out of necessity growing up on the farm. He retired from the City of Winnipeg Construction Division in 1990 after 40 years of service. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying many hunting and fishing trips over the years, with Martha and his sons and daughters-in-law. He enjoyed his annual hunting trips to Duck Mountain and Woodlands, as much for the camaraderie with his hunting partners as the hunt itself. He especially enjoyed these outings with his nephew Tony and great nephew Darren, and time spent at Gino’s fishing camp at Houston Lake. Frank was a great storyteller and these adventures made for many stories that he happily shared over the years. He leaves a legacy of a life well lived.
A celebration of his life will be held on Monday, December 16th , 2024 at 10:00 am at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street, Winnipeg. Father Bohdan Lukie officiating.
