Obituary of LEOPOLD REMI SIMOENS
LEO (LEOPOLD) SIMOENS
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Leo (Leopold) Simoens on December 05, 2024.
Leo was born and raised in Bruxelles, Manitoba, the eldest of five children.
He is survived by his wife Miriam, sister Marie (Steve), brother Maurice, and several nieces and nephews.
Leo was predeceased by his mother Gerarda, father George, and sisters Imelda, Evelyn, and Cecilia.
He spent most of his adult life in Winnipeg and graduated from the University of Manitoba with a degree in Fine Arts, Honors. He was a graphic designer and artist. His love of nature is reflected in his sensitive etchings and watercolours. The hills where he grew up were the inspiration for most of his landscapes. He was also a musician. He spent a lot of time at the log cabin he designed and built at Pinawa Bay, Manitoba.
A celebration of life will take place in Bruxelles next summer.
Many thanks for the exceptional care Leo received at Park Manor Personal Care Home.
In Leo’s memory, donations would be gratefully accepted by Park Manor or the Alzheimer’s Society of Manitoba.
