Obituary of Genowefa OMELJANIUK
GENOWEFA (GENIA) OMELJANIUK
(nee BEZNOWSKI)
Passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 15, 2008, at Seven Oaks General Hospital.
"Jean" was born near Sulechow, Poland on October 9, 1922. The outbreak of World War II forced her "evacuation" to the eastern Soviet Union. Subsequent wartime migration included the Indian subcontinent, Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, the balance of the Middle East ultimately to England. Following the conclusion of hostilities Jean emigrated to Speers, SK to rejoin her father. After a brief sojourn in adjacent North Battleford, Jean relocated to Winnipeg where she met John (Jan) Omeljaniuk; they were married in July 1951 in North Battleford. Jean and John had a single child Robert John in December 1957.
Throughout her career, Genia worked in the garment trade as a highly skilled seamstress for Ladies Craft and later Bonnson Manufacturing until her retirement in the late eighties.
Jean was predeceased by her husband John; brother-in-law Frank Kojder; parents Maria and Jan Beznowski, respectively and sister-in-law Wladyslawa Beznowski.
She is survived by her son Robert (Catherine); grandchildren Laura, Christopher, Victoria (Vicki) and John. She is also survived by her brother Walter Beznowski, sister Helen Kojder and nieces Pola Kojder, Lucy and Helen Beznowski. Extended family include George (Elaine) Inrig of Picton, ON. Her dearest and devoted friends include Bill (Judy) Wittmann as well as Jeff (Flora) Mason, who provided her unwavering friendship and support.
During her later years, Jean received outstanding care and attention from Dr. David Ross, the staff of the Kildonan Medical Centre and lately, The Wellness Centre located within Seven Oaks General Hospital.
Throughout her life, Genia demonstrated an unshakeable belief in God, outstanding courage and determination in the face of all adversities and a total and unconditional love of her beloved family, through which her life continues.
