ROSEMARIE (ROSE) MATHEWS

Obituary of ROSEMARIE (ROSE) MATHEWS

ROSEMARIE (ROSE) MATHEWS (nee Leitenberger) It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Rose on September 24, 2016. Rose grew up in Beausejour, 45 minutes outside Winnipeg along with her 3 sisters and 1 brother. As a teen she worked at a family owned business called Vickies, where still to this day makes some of the best burgers and milkshakes around. Rose also learnt how to make amazing ice cream and floats at the local bowling alley. In fact, Rose met her future husband Joe in Beausejour and eventually moved to Winnipeg for work. Rose worked at Sears for many years, as well as Shaarey Zedek Synagogue, and Avon for 20 years, where she made many friends. In fact, anything she was involved in for a lengthy period of time, made her many new life long friends. Rose was a very social person with groups of friends from all over. Some grew to become very close to her, from current and past neighbors, and many other groups. She often organized Car Rallies for neighbors where teams would drive around searching for clues all over the city. They would get together afterwards to see who's team would win. This often would lead to friendly heated discussions over correct answers but Rose always had the final say. Family was very important to Rose, as she always tried to make it to all family events. She was not shy with phone calls and emails to keep in touch with everyone. She would always write down special events like birthdays, and anniversaries so that she would never forget to acknowledge and spread well wishes. Rose was always a strong support especially for her Husband and 2 children, son in-law, & grandson, who could always rely on her for help. Even if sometimes it was taken for granted. She often selflessly put others before herself. The greatest joy in her life was her precious grandson Bauer, who could always put a huge smile on his Oma's face. She loved spending time with him playing with toys and reading books. The last visit Rose had with Bauer, he said "Oma" for the first time. If ever there was a professional shopper, Rose fit the bill. She always knew how to find a great deal, buying other peoples favorite items for them. Many trips to Grand Forks were enjoyed with friends and family. Another passion of Rose's was to travel. Air-miles have certainly helped this passion due to her savvy shopping skills. She was able to travel all over, often to visit people she cared about most. Rose was a strong and passionate wife, mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, sister, aunt, and friend. She always made sure everyone was taken care of. Rose has impacted more lives than any of us realize, which makes her a real true angel. We are all lucky enough to continue to feel her amazing presence forever. Memorial will be held at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street in Friday, September 30, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Rose's memory to The Heart & Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice.
