Obituary of GERTRUD MATHILDE (HILDE) HAYDA
GERTRUD MATHILDE (HILDE) HAYDA
(nee GUCKES)
June 18, 1919 – June 11, 2017
Hilde was born in the town of Hofheim-Marxheim, Germany. She immigrated with her second husband Frank (deceased) to Canada in 1951 by ship. Her first point of arrival was Pier 21 in Nova Scotia. From there she relocated to Steinbach by rail where she lived for a few years and then moved to Winnipeg and obtained Canadian citizenship a short time later. Over her lifetime she was the owner of several properties, the first was located on 745 Logan, and the last was her cherished brick house on Manitoba. It was here that Hilde created her beloved garden to mimic that of her family home in Germany.
She is predeceased by her first husband Josef, father Peter, mother Wilhelmina and brother Peter and sister-in-law Gertrud.
Beloved mother of Josefa (deceased), Walburga (George), Rosi (Harold - deceased) in Germany; Victor ((deceased) Linda), Margitta (Albert), Herbert (Jeanette), Silvia (Rick), Hannalore, who was like a daughter, and husband Ed. Grandchildren Silvia (Henry), Sabine (Thomas), Michael, Thomas (Iryna) in Germany; Victor II (Dana) and Sara (T.J.) and family, Jannine (Eric), Kyle (Ashlee), Tiffany (Adam), Aimee (Kevin). Great-grandchildren Ferdinand, Freimut, Nina, Denis, Katarina, Constantine in Germany; Victor III (Brittany), Jackson and Layla. Great-Great Grandchild Hudson. Nephews Herman (Hannalore), Walter (Ingrid) and families in Germany; nieces Helga (Richard), Waltrud (Peter) and families in the USA.
Hilde was a very hard worker and engaged in numerous employment opportunities throughout her life, sometimes working multiple jobs at one time. In addition to caring for her family, Hilde also offered support to those outside of the family by providing room/board and later became a 24 hour homecare provider. She was very proud of her family, and a huge lover of animals, opening the family home to numerous cats, dogs, rabbits and the odd chicken. Determined to live to 100, she was just 7 days short of turning 98.
Celebration of Life to be held at a later date.
Hilde, most affectionately known as Momma, Oma and Omi will be forever loved and missed.
