Obituary of GREGORY MARK THOMAS BOZYK

“It is not death that a man should fear, but he should fear never beginning to live. It's not about what you had, but what you gave. It's not about how you looked, but how you lived. And it's not just about being remembered. It's about giving people a good reason to remember you.”

Greg was born to Paul and Kathryn Bozyk and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Angel, sisters Patricia and Barbara, brother Christopher (Sandra), nieces Krispin (Stefan) and Stacy, nephew Trevor (Austin), and his many friends who helped him create a wonderful life.

Greg attended St. Ignatius School, St. Paul’s High School and the University of Manitoba. His charismatic personality, strong work ethic and professionalism allowed him much success in whatever he did, from operating his own water-ski business, to running for city council and having a very successful career in sales for over 30 years. 

 His passion and love for all things creative began when he was a child and continued on well into his last days. He had a thirst for adventure that could be quenched only by travelling to many amazing places. He reflected on his travels often and loved to share stories of the many sights he saw and people he met along the way.

We will lovingly remember his ability to make any activity, no matter how small exciting through his vivacious spirit, whether it was making a simple dinner, sharing a fine wine, singing in the boat, playing his guitar, chilling at the lake, or just going for a simple walk. Whatever he had he would share with others, even if was just a smile.

Greg was everyone's cheerleader. He would be the first one in the water for that first ski of the morning and was always there offering help to anyone in anyway he could. He believed that one act of kindness would make a world of difference. If someone was having a “not–so-great day”, he would always try to lift their spirit because he loved life so much. He made an indelible impression on anyone he met. Greg’s boyish enthusiasm was valued especially by his close friends.

Greg was passionate about so many things and knew a little bit about everything, whether it was who was playing in the next game, politics, religion, wine and food.  He would love to share his stories about playing and supporting Crusader football, being in a band, operating his own business and running for city council.  He fell in love with the lake; lake life was his solace. He had enduring, lifelong friendships. He was a consummate gentleman with a heart of gold.

 Life is mysterious and can’t be fully understood. It takes sadness to know what happiness is - noise to appreciate silence and absence to value presence.

Goodbyes are hard to say and they hurt so very much. Though Greg has passed, he remains in the minds, the hearts and the lives he’s touched.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Ignatius Church, 255 Stafford St. at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, November 21, 2017. 

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Paul A. Bozyk Memorial Bursary at St. Paul’s High School. Greg had great love and admiration for his father and created this bursary as a way to honour him. Donations can also be made to a charity of your choice.
