Obituary of FLORENTINE (LAURIE) CHARLES

Florentine (Laurie) Charles

(nee PROST)

After a full and rich life, Laurie passed away on September 12, 2019, at age 92.

Mom was born in Winnipeg on January 26, 1927. She was predeceased by her husband, Walter. She is survived by her sister Joyce Wythe; children Doug (Susan), Richard (Cathy) and Shirley Kazubek (Rick); grandchildren, Johanna (Ryan), Erin (Kevin), Trevor and Ainsley (Ryan); and five great grandchildren.

Mom led a busy and productive life. She always helped others and made a lasting impression on everyone she met, right to the end.

She was industrious from an early age.  She did everything from collecting the bounty on gopher tails to running her own businesses.

Grand Marais was very important to Laurie.  She worked for many years managing cabins and food stands so we could spend our summers at the beach. In later years Mom continued to enjoy her summers there.

In retirement, Mom and Dad travelled, wintering several years in Arizona.  She spent over sixty years 10 pin bowling.

Mom loved cooking and baking for others. Her perogies, cabbage buns and peppermint cookies were favourites.

Mom was always up for any game or party. She enjoyed her friendships and club activities at Riverside Plaza.  She was a member of St. Nicholas Orthodox Church in Narol, MB and treasured the relationships she made there and appreciated their support during her illness.

Mom, while we have said our goodbyes, you will always be in our hearts.  We are so proud of you.

Prayers will be said on Monday, September 16 at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 17 at 10:00 a.m. also at the Chapel.

Flowers gratefully declined. To truly honour Laurie’s spirit do something kind for someone else.
