Obituary of MARLO JAYNE JURKOWSKI

MARLO JAYNE JURKOWSKI Marlo Jayne Jurkowski, lawyer and lifelong resident of Winnipeg, passed away on Friday, January 17, 2020 after a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 41. Marlo is survived by her husband of 15 years, Ryan Jurkowski, her children Quinn and Emmett and dog Nixon. Marlo is lovingly remembered by her parents Barb and George Durston, mother and father in law Bernice and Len Jurkowski, sister Carly Durston and sister/brother-in-law Karen and Mark Colley. Marlo will be missed by her many surviving grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and colleagues. Marlo attended both U of M and U of W, where she succeeded in earning a Bachelor of Science, then arts and finally law before being called to the bar in 2005. It was clear she had found her calling and loved to go to work every day which was in no small part due to the wonderful friends and colleagues that became family over the many years they worked together. Girl Guides had been a part of Marlo’s life since she was a small child and she continued to volunteer as an adult. Among other roles, Marlo held the title of provincial commissioner, and received both the Beaver and Fortitude awards during her Guiding career. Her dedication to the guiding community lives on with her children and their participation in girl guides and scouts. Marlo’s number one priority in life was her family. Her favourite role was that of a devoted mother to Quinn and Emmett; she loved them more than life itself. She remained madly in love with her best friend and husband Ryan and it was evident that they truly enjoyed everyday life as a family together. Her spark for life was fuelled by her family and their happiness. Marlo was a lover of all things periwinkle, a voracious reader, dance choreographer, skilled camper, crafter extraordinaire and phenomenal baker. She will be deeply missed by her friends, family and all those that knew her. A celebration of life is scheduled for 1:30pm at Rossmere Country Club on Thursday, January 30th. In lieu of flowers please, make a donation on behalf of Marlo to the Canadian Cancer Society CIBC Run for the Cure Team Marlo. This will start the 2020 Team Marlo fundraising for breast cancer research.
