Obituary of GEORGE DARE

GEORGE DARE

AUGUST 11, 1940 - NOVEMBER 21, 2022

It is with great sadness the family of George Dare announce his passing.

George was predeceased by his parents Inez and Clarence Dare.  Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 29 years, Patricia, brother Tom (Irene), sister Miriam (Rick), children Suzanne, Lynne (Bill), Christine (Rob), George (Andrea), grandchildren Rachel, Joshua, Colton, Jade, Zachary, Veronica, Stephanie, Alexandria, Michael and great grandchildren Logan and Carter.  Extended family includes Pat’s siblings Charlie, Pauline, Harold, Derek, Jim and children Mark and Carolyn, grandchildren Steven, Amanda, Zoe, Matthew, and great grandchildren Logan and Sadie.

George lived in Transcona all his life, most of it in “South Side” where he was raised in the little white house across from the malting plant.  After living in north Transcona for a while he returned in the 70’s.

He worked for CN Rail as a track surveyor, a career that required some travel inspecting alignment of railroad tracks, especially after a train derailment.  He was also proud of his part in the design of the train “hump” in Symington Yards.

One of his favorite hobbies was carpentry.  Self-taught, he created many pieces of furniture.  A lot of homework was done on a custom-made brown desk in the living room.  He made a wonderful curio cabinet, desks, a coffee table, a rocking elephant, and other wonderful items.

George liked to go for car rides.  Every Sunday his kids would bug him, “Dad, can we go for a car ride?”  He’d oblige with random drives through the city or trips down country roads.  If they were lucky they’d go for fries at the Dairy Whip.

In retirement, George and Pat enjoyed mall walking at Kildonan Place where they met many new life-long friends.  George loved going for coffee or breakfast with his friends and siblings.

The Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, December 3, 10:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1800 Day Street.  All are invited to attend.
