Mike, when I was young, you were the big fellow with a perpetual smile, always ready to laugh. I'll always remember your dad yelling "Get him Mikey" while playing hockey at North Kildonan Community Center. It was a nice surprise, becoming neighbors with you and your family for 10 years on Radley Bay; It was always a pleasure to bump into you during our travels through the neighborhood. You made me feel good every time I talked with you. Certainly missed by all and fondly remembered.

Many fond memories of working and laughing with Darlene at the time Mike and Darlene started their beautiful life together. Darlene and family, hold onto the great memories of the goodness, devotion, love and laughter you all shared. That is yours to keep close to your heart. So sorry for you loss.

I met Mike in about grade 2 at Springfield Heights School and was friends with him ever since. We were hockey teammates for many memorable years and traveled together to Flin Flon two consecutive years for Flin Flon Bombers WCHL tryouts. We went to each other's weddings and remained friends. My wife Margaret reminded me of Mike and Darlene's wedding at the church on Watt and Monroe and how Darlene had been ill the week prior. We send our condolences to the entire Heckl family and will miss him so much.

Sending love and light to Mike’s family. Darlene and family, my heart is broken for you. As Laura said, 40 years ago today we had the best party celebrating Mike and Darlene’s wedding. Mike was always the kindest and generous man who would do anything for you. Mike you will be missed by everyone who knew you. Have shot of Applekorn and rest in peace my friend.

Heartfelt sympathies and love to all Mike's family. May the comfort of all the friends your husband and Dad touched wrap you in hugs. Today June 25th/1983, forty years ago, we were celebrating your wedding. What a wonderful party that was as you and Darlene began your life together. I was privileged to have shared so many wonderful, happy and adventurous times with all of you. Mike, you touched so many people with your smile, generosity, kindness, laughter and genuine interest in others. I will always remember sunset cruises at Clear Lake with Bob Marley on your playlist while viewing another magnificent end to a day knowing that life does not get much better than this ! I will miss you. On your next journey I hope there is fabulous coffee and a boat sitting at a pier waiting for you to Captain. Also of course an endless catalog of seventies and eighties music to echo across the water and your Dad along for the ride. Rest peacefully Mike. You deserve it.
