March 15, 1929 – August 2, 2023

It is with deep sorrow that the family announces the peaceful passing of Victoria Tynski (nee Zygarlicki) at Fred Douglas Lodge, on August 2, 2023 at the age of 94 years.

Cremation has already taken place and a Celebration of Life will happen on Tuesday, August 15, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street, Winnipeg.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to a charity of your choice.

Victoria Tynski (nee Zygarlicki)

Victoria Tynski passed away peacefully Tuesday, August 2, 2023 at Fred Douglas Lodge, at the age of 94 years. She was predeceased by her parents Stella and Walter, brother Edward, sister Violet and father of her children Michael.  Victoria is lovingly remembered by her children, Mary Anne (Darryl), Shirley (Walter), Susan (Albert), Michael (Kim). Grandchildren Robert (Heather), Tim (Lindsey), Erika (Vince), Wally-J (Nesa), Nicole (Jason), Stephanie (Jay), Christopher (Kim). Great-grandchildren, Peyton, Ella, Coral, Mac, Jason, Austen, Ember, Atlas and Rylee. She also leaves her sisters Helen (Bill), Adeline and sister-in-law Eleanor and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

 Victoria, the oldest of 5 children was born March 15, 1929 in the Municipality of Springfield, MB, grew up in Highland Glen and as an adult resided in the North End of Winnipeg. She lived on Church Ave for 58 years and became a resident at Fred Douglas Lodge in 2017.

Victoria’s greatest love was her family and all her children were proud to call her Mom. She raised 4 kids of her own, she fostered 19 children over numerous years and baby sat for working families.

Victoria supported all her grandchildren’s activities which included dance recitals, concerts, sports and most importantly all of their graduation ceremonies. Grandchildren looked forward to “sleepovers” at Grandma’s and she loved being with them.

Victoria’s hobbies included knitting, crocheting, sewing and braiding rugs. A great day for her was going to Eaton’s to buy skeins of Sayelle wool or yards of fabric on sale. She crocheted and knit many afghans, sweaters, scarves, mittens and toques. Afghans were knit for her children, grandchildren and for shower gifts. Victoria was blessed with a green thumb and always had a big garden. She grew vegetables to preserve. She was an amazing cook, her homemade cabbage soup, borscht, perogies, cookies and cakes were delicious.  Most will fondly remember her apple pies. Victoria loved hosting Christmas Eve dinner until family outgrew her house.

Victoria was old school, didn’t want to own a dishwasher, microwave or computer. We were able to get the microwave in which she learned how to use but the portable dishwasher sat and made an extended counter space in the kitchen. Victoria loved her TV, radio and telephone which she spent many hours on. During Covid it was her lifeline to her family.

Friends and family were her greatest joy. She had a good sense of humour until the end. Victoria loved cards, bingo, the casino, country music and dancing. Into her early 90’s she was still dancing with assistance at Fred Douglas Lodge and was known as the “Dancing Queen” by staff.

Victoria worked as a seamstress. She began working in her teens with her Uncle Nick, but left that job to go back to the farm to help out.  After being a stay home Mom, she returned to work sewing for “Harval’s Sportswear” until she retired at age 65.

Victoria had a deep love for nature and all animals, especially for her dear Corky, Shadow and Sam.

Victoria lived a beautiful, dignified life. She provided comfort and solace while asking for little in return. She taught her family integrity, loyalty and compassion, giving them the confidence necessary to pursue a full and happy life.

We were blessed to have her as our Mom.
